INNOVATION

At JEUMONT Electric, we invest 3% of our revenue in R&D each year. Innovation has been a part of our DNA since our company was founded in 1898. Throughout our long history, we have helped shape the evolution of rotating electric machines with a large number of patented innovations.

We feel strongly that building a future means maintaining a capacity for innovation and bringing technological breakthroughs to the market. Our ambition is to bring rotating electric machines the latest technological advances and critical components to enable:

● More efficient use of energy
● Enhanced environmental protection
● Longer lifespans for our machines.

JEUMONT Electric has always stood out for its eagerness to optimize existing technology or to prepare the future. An ecoefficient magnet wire could bring a significant advantage to our electrical machines, thus allowing us to offer our customers better performances whilst improving environmental friendliness.

Being part of the HI-ECOWIRE project is consistent with our objectives. This 42-months project brings together 11 partners, coordinated by Materia Nova and developed as part of the Interreg North-West Europe program.

HI-ECOWIRE has two main technical objectives :

  • Improve the energy performance and efficiency of electrical motors by 20% to 30%
  • Considerably reduce the consumption of (partly toxic) solvents and VOC emissions.

As an industrial partner in the project, JEUMONT Electric will act as the end-user and its specific role, in the last 18 months of the project, will be to test the Hi-Ecowire and give feedback on its concrete performances and benefits when applied to electrical rotating machines.

Electronics: Monitoring and safety

Electronics: Monitoring and safety

To monitor its machines, JEUMONT Electric develops applications based on cutting edge electronics technology. One example is the rotor to earth insulation failure detection system named JEROMO. It is a simple, cost-effective system that does not require any slip rings or brushes and can even monitor the rotor when idle.

1909 : 1875 kVA alternator presented at the Brussels International Exposition. Since then, we have taken advantage of advances in cooling systems to build faster, more powerful turbo-alternators for electric power plants at our Jeumont, France manufacturing facility.

1910 : ACENE (today JEUMONT Electric) wins Grand Prize at Brussels Universal Exposition for a single-phase electric locomotive developed for France’s southern railway Compagnie du Midi.

1955 : The Jeumont-Heidmann system (named after Léon Heidmann, an engineer at Jeumont Electric), a servo-controlled cam switch system used for motor start, control, and braking, enables the BB 9004 locomotive to set a new world record for speed.

1961 : JEUMONT Electric builds a 750 cu. m primary motor pump set prototype for the Chooz A nuclear power plant, carving out a position on France’s nuclear power market.

1966 : The first 600 MW turbo-alternator is manufactured at JEUMONT Electric’s Champagne-sur-Seine facility for the Porcheville nuclear power plant.

1968 : The 24 MW Rance Tidal Power Station is commissioned. Jeumont Electric supplies 12 of the 24 bulb turbines, 12 alternators, and 6 turbines, overcoming significant challenges in terms of cooling, with very low (94 rpm) motor speeds and hermetically-sealed bulb turbines.

1982 : JEUMONT Electric develops synchronous motors powered by naturally-commuted thyristors for main-line locomotives, building on high-speed rail R&D conducted with RailJet since 1968. Building on the success of the RailJet motors, Jeumont Electric later designed and built six-pole synchronous motors for France’s TGV Atlantique high-speed rail line.

1999 : The first-ever French-designed direct-drive wind turbine, a 750 KW machine called the J48, is installed at the Widehem, France wind farm. The project positioned Jeumont Industrie, a subsidiary of French nuclear reactor leader Framatome, on France’s burgeoning wind turbine market.

2009 : JEUMONT Electric takes control of 50 energy generators for French islands. The proposed technology enhances machine reliability and facility availability.

2015 : JEUMONT Electric is a partner of EU Horizon 2020 project Ecoswing to develop the first-ever 3.6 MW superconducting generator. The project was initiated by the end customer, Denmark’s Envision, to come up with a breakthrough innovation in renewable energy leveraging superconductor technology. As one of a nine-member project consortium, Jeumont Electric is collaborating with German engineering firm ECO 5 on the design of the future machine.
