Jeumont Electric selected to supply five machines for Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan

31 July 2018

In June 2018, Jeumont Electric received an order for three synchronous replacement motors (two 5,400 kW and one 6,400 kW) and two asynchronous motors (2,700 kW and 4,000 kW).

The machines will be installed at the Tengiz oil field operated by Tengizchevroil (a joint-venture between Kazakh, US and Russian companies led by Chevron in Kazakhstan). Tengiz is the world’s largest oil field in operation, with a reservoir 3,600 meters underground. This onshore site is located in the desert near the northeastern coast of the Caspian Sea. It was first discovered in 1979 and has been in operation since the 1990s. The motors will drive compressors used to extract oil and gas to supply residential customers in Kazakhstan as well as other customers.

History:
In 1989 Jeumont Electric (Jeumont Schneider) was selected as a top-tier supplier of medium-voltage motors for the Tengiz oil field. In 2008, Tengiz chose Jeumont to replace a competitor’s 6,400 kW synchronous motors with 6,400 kW asynchronous motors. In 2012 and 2013 Jeumont Electric supplied three asynchronous motors (2,400 kW, 2,700 kW, and 4,000 kW certified for hazardous environments). This latest order is evidence of Tengiz’s continued trust in Jeumont Electric.
