JEUMONT Electric to supply integrated systems for the future next-generation aircraft carrier

JEUMONT Electric has been selected by Naval Group and Framatome to supply several integrated systems for the future next-generation aircraft carrier, including the primary pump motors and the electric generators.

The project, called PA-NG, represents a major challenge for our company and a great recognition of our teams’ expertise.

 About: The PA-NG, scheduled to enter service in 2038, will be Europe’s largest warship and one of the largest in the world. Set to succeed the Charles-de-Gaulle and named France-libre, the new-generation aircraft carrier (PA-NG) represents a major technological and industrial challenge for France. It will draw on all national expertise in the fields of naval architecture and combat systems, digital technology and cyber defence, information and communication systems, nuclear propulsion and carrier-based aviation, sensors and weaponry (source: Mer et Marine).

General timetable for the PA-NG programme

  • 2019: initial studies to explore all possible options for replacing the Charles-de-Gaulle
  • December 2020: the President of the Republic opts for nuclear propulsion for the future French aircraft carrier
  • March 2021 – April 2023: preliminary design phase
  • April 2023 – summer 2025: detailed design phase
  • April 2024: the CEA and the DGA place orders for nuclear propulsion equipment with long lead times
  • End of 2025 (forecast): signing of the construction launch dossier (DLR)
  • 2031: cutting of the first steel plates for the PA-NG at Saint-Nazaire, at Chantiers de l’Atlantique
  • 2035: departure of the PA-NG for Toulon
  • 2036: resumption of trials following the loading of nuclear fuel into the reactors
  • 2038: commissioning of the PA-NG
