VILLARODIN HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION: STATOR SUCCESSFULLY REBUILT !

16 May 2025

The reconstruction of the stator at EDF’s Villarodin hydroelectric power station marks a decisive step in this strategic project, which will last a total of 16 months and was launched in February 2022.

With an exceptional power rating of 195 MVA, this stator is the largest alternator ever rebuilt by our teams. Designed and manufactured by JEUMONT Electric in Jeumont 60 years ago, it ensures the smooth operation of EDF’s Villarodin hydroelectric power plant.

The stator was rebuilt directly on site, in the power station, incorporating some of the largest Roebel bars ever manufactured by JEUMONT Electric in Carquefou. This project was made possible thanks to the efforts of the design office teams, the production teams and the 20 employees from the Carquefou site who worked on the project.

The next steps, scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025, include the refurbishment of the rotor and the final installation of the rebuilt stator in the pit.

The Villarodin power station, located near the French Alps, is a semi-underground power station on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, belonging to the Mont-Cenis hydroelectric development. It is equipped with two Pelton-type generating units with a head of approximately 900 metres. Designed to supply electricity during peak consumption periods, the power station can start up in a matter of minutes and very quickly feed into the French electricity grid.
